The Sisak Hoard of Argentei of the Early Tetrarchy
The Sisak Hoard of more than 2000 silver argentei, most of them mint-state, plus silver vessels, was found in 1953 near Siscia (Croatia). Still today, nearly all the high grade early argentei of the early tetrarchy on the market came from this hoard. The deposition of the hoard can be placed in the year 295/296. "The Sisak Hoard of Argentei of the Early Tetrarchy" by Aleksander Jelocnik, published in 1961, includes a detailed catalog of 1415 of the argentei, photos of 142 of the coins, including one ancient imitation, plus three plates of the container in which the hoard was found. Jelocinik's catalogue provided the basis for the information on the silver coinage that appears in RIC Volume VI, but is even more detailed.
