The type, in the Celtic tradition, was copied. The prototype was a Macedonian bronze with the head of the river-god Strymon right, wreathed in corn on the obverse and a trident with dolphins between the prongs on the reverse. This type was appropriate to the Celts of Serdi as the river Strymon runs through the region.
