They were popular in their own time and accepted for payment far from the island. Because they were the first European coin type and because they are attractive and interesting, the Greek Turtle is considered a must have by many ancient coin collectors.

Asyut group IIb - III, SNG Cop 501 - 503, SNG Delepierre 1502, SGCV I 1851, F, banker's marks, Aegina mint, weight 11.814g, maximum diameter 19.3mm, obverse sea turtle with "collar" in high relief, banker's marks on shell; reverse irregular "Union Jack" punch of four roughly triangular incuse compartments (die likely originally had additional incuse compartments lost due to damage); SOLD
