In 588 the Persia was at war with both the Byzantines and the Turks. A Persian army of 12,000 men supported by Cataphracts (heavy cavalry) ambushed the invading Turks, and won a great victory at the battle of the Hyrcanian Rock. A Persian force was, however, defeated by a Byzantine army at Martyropolis.MA95733.
