Although she bore him several children, at some point in their marriage, Lucilla felt neglected and desired more attention from her husband. The emperor was apparently busy elsewhere. It was not considered adultery for a Roman husband to have sex with slaves or unmarried women. The historian Spartianus wrote that after Lucilla complained, Lucius Verus reproached her, "Uxor enim dignitatis nomen est, non voluptatis" (wife is the name of dignity, not bliss).

Silver denarius, RIC III 792 (R), BMCRE IV 331, RSC II 99, SRCV II 5495, VF, uneven toning, flow lines, scratches, a little rough, Rome mint, weight 3.085g, maximum diameter 18.5mm, die axis 180o, 164 A.D.; obverse LVCILLAE AVG ANTONINI AVG F, draped bust right, hair knotted in chignon low at back; reverse VOTA PVBLICA (Vows (prayers) of the Roman people), laurel wreath, closed with shield at the top, pellet in center; the first specimen of this type handled by FORVM; rare; SOLD
