Trajan, 25 January 98 - 8 or 9 August 117 A.D.
After defeating the surrounding mountain fortresses, in 106 A.D. Trajan captured Sarmizegetusa, the Dacian capital. Decebalus fled but, followed by the Roman cavalry, committed suicide rather than face capture. On 11 Aug 106 A.D., the south-eastern part of Dacia (modern Romania) was made the Roman province Dacia.
