Constantius II, 22 May 337 - 3 November 361 A.D.
|Constantius| |II|, |Constantius| |II,| |22| |May| |337| |-| |3| |November| |361| |A.D.|, On 15 Mar 351, Constantius II elevated his cousin Constantius Gallus to Caesar. Gallus was married to Constantius' sister Constantina and put in charge of the Eastern Roman Empire. On 7 May 351, after Constantius Gallus arrived at Antioch, the Jews began a rebellion in Palestine. The Roman garrison in Diocesarea was wiped out. In 352, Constantius Gallus sent his magister equitum (general) Ursicinus to put down the Jewish revolt in Palestine. The rebels destroyed Diopolis and Tiberias. The Romans razed Diocesarea to the ground and Ursicinus gave the order to kill thousands of Jews, even children. Despite his success quelling the revolt, in 354, after hearing unfavorable reports, Constantius recalled Gallus to Constantinople. Constantius striped him of his powers and later had him executed. On 6 Nov 355, Constantius II raised his cousin Julian (later called the Apostate) to rank of Caesar. Julian was married to Constantius' sister Helena and put in charge of the Western Provinces.
