In 401, Arcadius allied himself with the Huns and sent many gifts to the Hunnish chieftain Uldin in appreciation of his victory over the Goths and Gainas.

Bronze centenionalis, RIC X Arcadius 91 (S), DOCLR 243, LRBC II 2442, SRCV V 20805, Choice EF/gVF, dark green patina, buff earthen deposits, centered on a tight flan, Nicomedia (Izmit, Turkey) mint, weight 2.532g, maximum diameter 18.0mm, die axis 180o, 401 - 403 A.D.; obverse D N ARCADIVS P F AVG, helmeted bust facing, diademed, cuirassed, spear in right over right shoulder behind head, shield decorated with a cross on left arm; reverse CONCORDIA AVGG (harmony between the two emperors), Constantinopolis enthroned facing, head right, long scepter in right hand, Victory on globe offering wreath in her left hand, right leg bare, right foot on prow, SMNA in exergue; scarce; SOLD
