Japan, Yamashiro Province, Kyoto, Shichijo, 1726, Shin Kanei Tsuho, Fu Kyu Te
|Japan|, |Japan,| |Yamashiro| |Province,| |Kyoto,| |Shichijo,| |1726,| |Shin| |Kanei| |Tsuho,| |Fu| |Kyu| |Te|, The calligraphy on this coin is in the Fu Kyu Te (Fukyu) script, named after a Nagasaki merchant who studied the series. The main characteristics of Fukyu script are the fu ei (drooping head of ei), the closed head on tsu, and claw protruding from the bottom left of ho. Fukyu specialist works list many varieties, but none of these references are in English and most of the varieties are too difficult for us to tell apart.
