|Saloninus|, |Saloninus,| |Summer| |260| |A.D.|, The figure opposite Jupiter is usually identified as Saloninus, but the epigraph proclaims more than one deity and the figure is laureate and is presented with a laurel crown. We would expect Saloninus, as caesar, to be bare-headed. The figures may be Jupiter and Gallienus, together the gods nutritors of Saloninus.

Billon antoninianus, Göbl MIR 1606e (Valerian II), RIC V-1 35 (S), RSC V 21, Hunter IV 11, SRCV 10765 (eastern field mint), VF/F, bold choice obverse, reverse struck with a worn die, Antioch (Antakya, Turkey) mint, weight 3.400g, maximum diameter 19.4mm, die axis 180o, as caesar, 257 - summer 260 A.D.; obverse P COR SAL VALERIANVS CAES, radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust right; reverse DII NVTRITORES (the fostering, rearing, educating gods), Jupiter (on right) and Saloninus standing confronted, Saloninus in military garb, Jupiter holding vertical scepter in left and presenting crowning Victory on globe with right; scarce; SOLD
