Another example last sold in Gemini, auction IX (9 Jan 2012), lot 333, for $2000 plus fees. Gemini wrote of their specimen: "...RIC 23 (R3), citing Sternberg, 23 November 1974, lot 57 (this coin)...Apparently the only specimen known with portrait left and this reverse type. Contact mark on forehead, otherwise EF...Ex Harry N. Sneh Collection. Ex CNG 85, 15 September 2010, lot 873. Ex Sternberg, 23 November 1974, lot 57." We know of one other example (it is in the Members' Gallery on the Forum website), making this the third known.
RS82690. Silver denarius, RIC II 23 (R3), RSC II 270 var. (head right), BMCRE II 7 var. (same), BnF III 7 var. (same), SRCV I 2508 var. (same), Hunter I -, aVF, well centered, toned, bumps and marks, scratch on cheek, Rome mint, weight 2.869g, maximum diameter 19.50mm, die axis 180o, c. Jul - end 79 A.D.; obverse IMP TITVS CAES VESPASIAN AVG P M, laureate head right; reverse TR P VIIII IMP XIIII COS VII P P, Ceres seated left, grain stalks and poppy head in extended right hand, flaming torch in left hand; only the 3rd known with portrait left, extremely rare!; SOLD
