On 14 October, at the Battle of Hastings, King Harold II of England was killed and Duke William of Normandy was victorious. In England, this date is the traditional end of the Dark Ages (Early Middle Ages). On 25 December, Duke William of Normandy was crowned King William I of England in Westminster Abbey.
