Caliph Abd al-Malik agreed to pay tribute. Justinian II removed from Lebanon 12,000 Christian Maronites who had continually resisted the Arabs. Justinian reinforced the Byzantine navy on Cyprus and transferred cavalry troops from Anatolia to the Thracesian Theme on the Balkan Peninsula.
