Chalkis, Euboia, Greece, c. 245 - 196 B.C.
Ancient Chalkis (also KhalkŪs or Chalcis), in eastern Greece on the strait of Evripos near Athens, is today the capital of Euboea. In the 8th and 7th centuries B.C., Chalkis established colonies in Macedonia (giving its name to the peninsula of Chalcidice) and in Sicily.
