Silver cistophoric tetradrachm, Metcalf Cistophori, type 49 (unlisted dies); RSC II 275b; RIC II 497 note; overstruck on a cistophorus of Augustus (RSC I 16), VF, Aizanoi (Cavdarhisar, Turkey) mint, weight 11.29g, maximum diameter 27.3mm, die axis 225o, 128 - 138 A.D.; obverse HADRIANVS AVGVSTVS P P, bare-headed, draped, and cuirassed bust right, from behind; reverse COS III, Zeus of Aezanis standing slightly left, head left, chest bare, himation around hips and legs, eagle in extended right hand, vertical long scepter cradled in left arm and hand; ex CNG Mail Bid Sale 73 (2006), lot 904; scarce; SOLD
