Byzantine Empire, Isaac Comnenus, Usurper in Cyprus, 1184 - 1191 A.D.
Isaac Comnenus maintained independent rule in Cyprus for 7 years. He was defeated by Richard the Lionheart of England during the third crusade. Isaac was imprisoned and Cyprus was never recovered by the Byzantine Empire.

Billon aspron trachy, Marchev and Wachter 6.21 (R2); DOC IV-1 2; SBCV 1991, aF, soft strike, primary (Nicosia?) mint, weight 3.419g, maximum diameter 28.7mm, die axis 180o, c. 1187 - 1191; obverse MP - ΘV, the Virgin, nimbate, seated facing on throne without back, nimbate head of infant Christ on breast; reverse IC-AA-KIOC - [OΓEWPΓ]IOC (circular on left, columnar on right), Isaac (on left) and St. George stand facing full-length holding patriarchal cross on globus in center, Isaac crowned, in imperial dress, anexikakia in right; Saint nimbate, in military attire, sword in left; rare; SOLD
