Swedish Livonia, Christina of Sweden, 1632 - 1654
|Sweden|, |Swedish| |Livonia,| |Christina| |of| |Sweden,| |1632| |-| |1654|, Gustav II Adolph had sired two daughters. The castle filled with shouts of joy when his wife delivered a child first taken for a boy - he was so hairy and screamed with a strong, hoarse voice. Christina wrote in her autobiography, "Deep embarrassment spread among the women when they discovered their mistake." The king was larkhappy, stating that "She'll be clever, she has made fools of us all!" and ordered she be brought up as a prince. At the age of six, upon her father's death in the Thirty Years' War, Christina took the oath as king, not queen, giving rise to her nickname the "Girl King." After converting to Catholicism and abdicating her throne, she spent her later years in France and Rome.
