He seems to have initially fought successfully against the Indo-Scythian invaders led by Azes I. He was, however, ultimately defeated and became the last western Indo-Greek king.

(same), aVF, Hazara(?) mint, weight 9.340g, maximum diameter 28.3mm, die axis 0o, obverse BAΣIΛEΩΣ MEΓAΛOY ΣΩTHPOΣ, IΠΠOΣTPATOY (M as eta), diademed and draped bust right; reverse Kharosthi legend: maharajasa tratarasa mahatasa jayamtasa Hipustratasa, Hippostratos on horseback right, wearing crested helmet and military garb; Kharosthi letters left and in exergue, monogram right; variant not in sources consulted, SNG ANS notes otherwise unpublished for the similar type with a normal M; very rare; SOLD
