This is a bronze counterfeit of a gold solidus. We cannot say if it is ancient or only antique, but in either case it is from the John Quincy Adams Collection.
JA47628. Fouree gold plated solidus, bronze, probably cast, cf. SBCV 3 (official, gold, Constantinople mint, 491 - 498 A.D.), Fair, no gold plate remaining, weight 4.863g, maximum diameter 21.1mm, die axis 180o, obverse D N ANASTA-SIVS P P AVG, helmeted and cuirassed facing bust, cross on helmet, spear in right over shoulder, shield on left; reverse VICTORIA AVGGG Γ (victory of the three emperors, 3rd officina), Victoria standing left, long jeweled cross in right, star right, CONOB in exergue; comes with a John Quincy Adams Collection tag from the Stacks Sale; scarce; SOLD
