Probus, Summer 276 - September 282 A.D.; AEQVITI Series Error
|Probus|, |Probus,| |Summer| |276| |-| |September| |282| |A.D.;| |AEQVITI| |Series| |Error|, Part of the Rome mint AEQVITI series - click AEQVITI to read the NumisWiki article, "Coins of Probus with Coded Markings of EQVITI Embedded in the mint mark." This scarce type would normally has the letter I in the middle of the mint mark, the 7th letter of the word AEQVITI (the code letters were assigned to each officina in order by officina number). However on this coin the code letter is E. We assume the engraver mixed up the pattern. This variety is recorded by RIC, and so are others for the many types of the series.
