Most of the coins were test cut. The cuts provided a means for an ancient banker to verify the internal consistence of the silver. This particular coin was apparently never struck. It is probably an ingot or planchet of the c. 11 gram standard of Cyprus, c. 500 B.C. The flan is of a shape similar to early Salamis issues. Early Salamis staters were found in the Asyut Hoard.
