After Juba II was paraded in his triumph, Caesar, and later Octavian, raised him. He learned Latin and Greek and became a Roman citizen. Juba II accompanied Octavian on campaigns and fought alongside him in the battle of Actium. They became longtime friends and Augustus restored him as King of Numidia. Augustus afterward exchanged Mauretania with Juba, the son, for Numidia.
