Galla Placidia, Augusta, 421 - 7 November 450 A.D.
|Galla| |Placidia|, |Galla| |Placidia,| |Augusta,| |421| |-| |7| |November| |450| |A.D.|, The crude Victory reverse type with the officina letter left is typical of coins struck in the west, mostly at Rome, during the long reign of Valentinian III (and to a very small degree, by Johannes and Majorian). Although the tight flan cuts off the obverse legend, since the bust has, in our opinion, female features, an elaborate headdress and a sizable pearl-necklace, we believe the coin was struck by Valentinian III in the name of his mother, Galla Placidia.
