"'Post-Reform Radiate' is the modern name of a coin which originated about 294 in Diocletian's coinage reform. Its original name is unknown. In size (20-22 mms and about 3 gms) and appearance (radiate bust) they resembled the antoninianus, but were bronze instead of 4% silver billon. The 'follis', also introduced in 294, was of billon and equaled 2½ radiates. A radiate may have been worth two of the small laureate bronzes, usually known as Ae denarii. Radiate production ceased in the west by 299 and in the east (where they much more common) by 307." - from Moneta Historical Research by Thomas SchroerRT91843.
