Plautilla: presumably a mule from an old obv. die, since the succeeding coiffure, with ear covered, had already been introduced with the preceding rev. type, PIETAS AVGG.

In my manuscript Severan Silver catalogue, which is certainly very far from complete, I only record one specimen of this mule, Ancient Auction House, eBay, 30 Dec. 2008, 2.71g. Is your coin the same or a different example?

Hello Curtis,

it is not the same Plautilla, because mine has 3,27 Gramm.

Thanks. I couldn't tell, because half an hour ago my computer refused me access to your Gallery with the coin weight.

ARAB ADIABENIC: Rare as you say (only one spec. in Reka Devnia hoard), and interesting because of the specific reference to Septimius' victory over the Parthian vassals who had sided with Niger and attacked Roman territory.

Yes, IMP VII in Cohen must be a misreading for VIII.  Cohen also mistakenly says that Victory is carrying a trophy rather than a palm branch. On your spec. that attribute is unclear. Can you see the palm fronds at the top with the coin in hand?

Your ARAR error may be unknown to me. The two spec. in my present collection show a different error, omission of the first A of ADIABENIC. One of these coins, with SEV in obv. legend, is Barry Murphy's SEV-134, now in my collection; the other is from the same rev. die but with SEVER in the obv. legend.

I tried to make better fotos to compare.

And I think it is a palm and not a trophy. The "ball" behind the head of Victory seems to be a part of the wings (white color) and so the "rest" is a palm (yellow color). And this agrees with yours (SEV-134 Ex Barry P. Murphy), or not?

Thanks again for your explaining, Curtis.

Rainer

A new Sicilian...

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-151622

Not a rarity, but a really fair coin for a only some Euro. Some deposite on Avers, but I like the horse at Reverse so much. And untouched.

Unfortunately Sicilian coins in a good quality are expensive. The others are ruins. Mostly...

Wow, you have a fantastic collection (congrats, nummis-d)

I especially love your last two coin additions ... the sweet Segesta-hound and yesterday's Kamarina Onkia (they are a couple of total winners! ... I love animal-coins)

Cheers

A coin of my "homeland"  :)

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-159772

The Legion XXII was stationed in Mainz. It defended Trier against the troops of Clodius Albinus in 195 AD, and it was also involved in the victory of Severus over Albinus on February 19, 196 in Lugdunum.

My coin is also represented on the German wikipedia page of Legio XXII. I think, this is a good pedigree  ;D

I don't know...

Is it really an "EVENTVC" or only a miss-reading?

Rev: BONI EV-ENTVC(sic!) - Bonus Eventus standing left holding basket of fruits in right hand, grain ears in left
