Stylistically, the eagle does look similar to some of the ones on Trebizond bronze issues, but I'm not sure if this is a Trebizond coin (the obverse, which seems to show two emperors or a saint/emperor, is not too clear).

Though the saint on the obverse side looks a bit like St Eugenios.

Yes, there are many anonymous issues from Trebizond, many of which have not been catalogued (perhaps yours is one of these). I only have one or two Trebizond coins, but none are this anonymous type

That is a very nice coin by the way. I too find the history of Trebizond and its coins very interesting. Sadly, we have not got too much information about this as the mainstream Byzantine Empire has received much more attention from numismatists (mainly because there were more coins lol) than Trebizond.

Perhaps its a coin from John II, as after his reign the Trapezuntines changed the eagle from a double-headed eagle to a single-headed one.

Sorry, but I haven't got the Retowksi book (very hard to find). Does it say that it is from Alexios III?

I wouldn't put too much trust in these "Ukrainian experts" - this particular coin has the same reverse as S.2613 of John II - you can see the IW above centre.

Yes, the details that can be seen all seem to match 2613.
