Hi!
Now I got my copy of Hristova/Jekov's monograpy about
Nikopolis too. Mrs. Hristova has asked me for a similar
thread for
Nikopolis Addenda like we have already for Markianopolis. And so here it is!
I have startet to re-attribute my coins and have now completed my
Commodus coins. And here are some coins I couldn't find in the new Hristova/Jekov:
#1
A new
type, at least a new die combination
Commodus, 177-192
AE 27, 12.68g
struck under hegemon Caecilius Servilianus
obv. AV - T KAI
MAR AVRH -
KOMODOC AV
Head, bearded, laureate, r.
rev. NEIKOPO PROC ICT - HG - EMO KAIKI CERBEILIA:
River-god. bearded, in
himation, nude to hips, leaning l., holding rudder(?) in r. hand and resting with l.
arm on vase from
which water flows l.
ref. a)
AMNG I/1, 1235, pl. XVII, 31
b)
Varbanov (engl.) 2160
c) not in
RPC online (
RPC doesn't react on my emails!)
d) not in Hristova/Jekov:
obv. No.8.10.32.3
rev. No.8.10.32.2
var. But no.8.10.32.2 shows a typical water-plant whereas on my coin it looks like a rudder, so that
Pick writes: The object in the r. hand of the river-god appears as thin rod, but it should be probably a rudder; in any
case it is not a
reed as
Sestini has suggested.
BTW on
AMNG 1235 the vase is below the base as on my coin
Best regards
