As my French and Spanish is not much developed since my last visits in these beautiful countries with lots of Roman culture i have to ask in English:

Any recommendations concerning ancient coins in France and (northern) Spain?

Thanks,

A.

Hi Arminius

Bienvenue en France (welcome to France)
Si tu envisages de visiter la region de Lyon, pense a nous rendre visite, ce sera avec plaisir (if you're intending to visit around Lyons (Lugdunum), please consider visiting us, it will be a pleasure)
As to what to do about coins, there are some serious dealers in the main cities, but don't forget that numismatics is not as developped in France as it is in other countries such as Germany or UK, not talking of USA

Regards
Potator

Hi Arminius,
do you plan to visit elderly roman cities?

Then, Arminius, you could pay a visit to Lyon (Lugdunum) not far from where you will be staying sunday evening  ;)
Not far from Lyon is Saint Romain en Gal (Vienna), further south you can stop in Orange (Arausio), Nimes (Nemausus) and on your way to spain is Narbonne (Narbo). Many others that I can't detail, and a lot to do. Hope you have six weeks to spend...

Hope you will enjoy your trip
Regards
Potator

Nothing very interesting to see in Narbonne, only a few traces of the romans there !

That's not roman but you must see Carcassonne !

On the way to Spain, ther are a very lovely celtic oppidum near Beziers, it's Enserune, with a stunning view :

it's a ancien lake drained in the XII centuary

You must see the "pont du Gard" too after visiting Potator  ;)

Not many traces in Narbonne but interesting ones. You can visit there the "Horrea" (warehouses) and the museum wich many roman artefacts and the most beautiful roman paintings in Gaul.

Vienna, Nemausus and Arausio have many Roman buildings and traces. In the South, you have also Arles (Arelate), Vaison la Romaine (Vasio) and St Rémy de Provence (Glanum).
Much in the North (Burgundy), there is Autun (Augustodunum).

Yes - Carcassonne is great!

But beware if you prefer old walls without tourists.
