Byzantine Anonymous Folles Gallery
« on: November 02, 2007, 03:09:44 pm »
I've been shooting images of my Anonymous folles, and have created a public gallery for them.  I have about half of them processed and posted in the gallery.

Please feel free to stop in and visit.  Comments, suggestions, etc., are certainly welcome.

(Personally, I'm not happy with the quality of some of the images.  Several of the coins are wonderfully glossy, but the images make them look dirty and dull, so I may be reshooting some of them in the near future.)

Hope you enjoy,

Craig

I uploaded a few more images today....for now you can id them as the ones without any weight or diameter information noted.

I'm still being frustrated with getting true to life images of some of them...for example, C003, 004 and 005 are beautiful dark glossy coins, but I just can't seem to get that to capture on the images.

I have about another dozen or so coins I still need to reshoot.

More experimentation needed I guess......

I know this thread is over 10 years old but this collection is excellent and it is worth a revisit.

It's been a long time since I started this thread and posted anything to it, but here goes.....

I was at the Whitman Expo earlier this month and picked up a bunch of anonymous folles.  While I work on getting the weights and diameters logged and uploading them to my GALLERY, I thought I'd post some images to this thread.  I'll do it in two or three separate posts as not to exceed any limits that may exist for uploads.

So here are two Class A1 folles (one of my favorite classes).

Here is another Whitman Expo anonymous follis purchase:

Class A Folles' target='_blank'>Class A2, B&G ornamentation style #32.

The coins weighs 12.51 grams and has a diameter of 30.67 mm.

I think the cross ornaments are the most desirable for the type. Nice coin!

I agree, Joe.  That's why I jumped at this one when I saw it.  I don't recall ever coming across another one previously in all the years that I've been collecting them.

It could either be that they get snapped up immediately whenever they do come up for sale, or they are truly somewhat scarce.

I have had a few. You would have to be quick to get them from the FORVM shop. They almost always seem to sell within a day, despite putting higher prices on them.

Here is another of my purchases from the Whitman Expo.....

It's a decent little class F follis overstruck on a class E follis.

And here are the last two....

The first a class J overstruck on a class I (itself possibly overstruck on a class H....opinions openly solicited), and a class K overstruck on a class J.  Even though the class K is nothing really special, I will buy just about every one with definite traces of a class J undertype.
