So, um.... wow

Pity about the reverse, but an unbelievably rare coin! Thoughts?

Hi,

I think your "WOW" says it all; RIC VIII Rome 203 (R3). This was the coin I hoped to find, the Nepotian with the name CONSTANTINVS. Yours appears to read CONSTANTINS, is that a recognised orthographic error? I certainly isn't footnoted in RIC.

Regards,

Mauseus

Evan, is it yours? If it is, I envy you a lot, I always want to have one but i think i still have to wait some more years. ;)
I see the CONSTANTINS too, it´s a really rare coin.

Regards, Ignacio.

That looks as though it's been zapped or treated with harsh chemicals already, but not too thoroughly. the bare metal's shoing through all over hte place, and what patina it has appears to be artificial. SO I doubt whether any further harm is going to be done.

You would have to be fearless to put any chemicals on that coin even if it has been done before (which I am not sure has happened).  If I owned it I would clean it, one little tiny spot at a time under 40X with a microscope dissection scalpel.   Nothing else.

Looks like I will get the chance to clean it.  I bought it.  (I may change my mind and leave it as is when I have it in hand.)

Congratulations, Joe!  Excellent acquisition!

Oh, and I think I have an electrolysis rig you can borrow... ;D

The real question is, how many hours did you put in?

Probably three or four hours, broken into many short sessions, sometimes with months between them.   The last few months I have just been waiting for a few bright spots to tone up a bit

Wow that is a fantastic job! That makes the coin look so much better. Just curious, did you use a dental picks, a pin vise, or something else?

How do you estimate your hourly wage, i.e. what price would you have put on it in the 'before' condition?

I really didn't even think about the money.  I don't know what it is worth now.  I priced it, but it has to sell to determine the value.  I may have to lower the price before it sells.
