Help please w/ Byzantine trachy..
« on: November 14, 2005, 07:01:40 pm »
I'm not sure who this is from. Maybe Manuel I, maybe not.... The last coin I posted that I thought was Byzantine turned out to be a Bulgarian Medieval coin!  :-[ Whose trachy's are the most common and are there any general rules to help narrow down the choices? I find these coins fascinating but still am clueless.

Sear 2044

I can not understand.... :).... do you wish to buy ONLY byzantine coins??? That's very easy!
Open the ebay stores, especially Ancientcoins Canada, and if you find somewhere "Bulgrian trachy, Asen I" or similar - you must be sure - THIS IS NOT medieval bulgarian coin!!! :) :) :)

HI Blago - Thanks for the ID. I was joking about the Bulgarian Medieval coin - and no, I don't wish to only buy Byz.coins. I still know too little about them. ;)

Would S2044 make it one of the Latin rulers and not ManuelI?

Hi newone!
 :)

I'm not Blago, but it doesn't matter.
S 2044 make it "no one"! :)
There no  concrete emperor or coin.
"Latin imitations" imitate "Byzantine" coinage at whole!
And there is a difference between "Latin" and "Bulgarian" imitations.
