Where was this roman mount applied?
« on: February 18, 2021, 08:19:04 pm »
Hello guys,

This copper alloy mount is 33mm and weighs +- 12 grams. Would this have been applied to a strap, actual belt or something completely else?
As for dating i'm thinking of 2-3rd century since openwork was quite popular during that era. (correct me if i'm wrong).

Thanks and have a great day ! (:

Some say these are from horse harness, I have also seen reports in Internet that similar one have been found on caskets in graves .

Yeah it quite possibly is part of horse harness. Thought the 'kidney' shapes in it was how it mostly was with military items, not sure how this would have mounted on a chest.
