Roman strap ends
« on: May 03, 2021, 01:13:34 pm »
Good afternoon,

This is a group of items that are strap ends but I was wondering about the placement of these. I have seen these described as apron straps but also strap ends of the main belt.
Anybody that can give me more insight on it's placement and age(late third-throught 4th century?).

These narrow tear-drop strap ends date to 120s to mid-third century AD and were used with the Dura Europos and Osterburken belt buckles on belt sets with long plates - solid or openwork.

They were used in pairs as the end of the belt was split in two for its last few feet of length.
