Trying to identify late roman coin
« on: October 21, 2020, 07:32:20 am »
Good day,

Could you please help with this one?
1.40 g 13.3 mm

Mintmark appears to be SMN A or  :Greek_Delta: - so Nicomedia mint.

I think the reverse legend ends in PBLICAE so a REIPVBLICAE type.

Many thanks in advance.

Later edit - I think I managed to identify it myself - Arcadius, Nicomedia, SALVS REI PVBLICAE.

Thanks. It took a while until I finally went to Arcadius route, as for some reason I was looking at Constantius II coins in error.
This and the Tetricus barbaric imitation were the last 2 coins from a batch I wanted to identify.

This is a nice example for the type.

The designs are relatively well centered and are complete and sharp.  While the legends are weak that is less important.  Luckily the mint mark is clear - finding a fully readable mintmark with officinal letter is relatively difficult for this type.
