A strange serie of coins
« on: October 14, 2020, 09:41:12 am »
Hello,

I have three coins to show you. The two first are from same obverse die.. i dont like their allure:
https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=417171
https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=3687426

the third coin is very strange:
https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=5993701

The mark is:

X
XI :Greek_Gamma:

therefore 21,5 instead of 12.5... the mint mark is SM(N/X)B... Is that coin genuine? The crown look added. Im troubled because many and even the majority of Martinian's coins are tooled by sellers and often on hairs and crown.. I think anyway that the coin is genuine but just tooled.

Here's another couple of specimens with same X/XI :gammavar:. error. First, ex. eBay, second ex. Goldberg 72.

The Goldberg "X" almost looks like an "I" with exagerated serifs, but if you zoom in it is an "X".
