Constantine VIRTVS EXERCIT - barbaric?
« on: July 08, 2020, 06:39:39 am »
Hello friends, a recent purchase that I found interesting. 17mm 4grams

I'm assuming this is an attempt to imitate RIC 57 from Aquileia as seen here: http://www.coinproject.com/coin_detail.php?coin=333520

The visible legends are correct but the style seems off, especially the cuirass. Also, note the backwards S on the reverse.

Any extra insight would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Sorry - a modern fake in my humble opinion

Yes--the flat fields, perfectk, round flan, and odd, shallow style indicate modern work in my opinion too.

I think this might be one of the coins from the fake "uncleaned" coins that came on the market years ago.
