Hi Joe, a nice group of bracteates to be sure.

Bracteates area fascinating part of monetary history. They seem to have been successful at their job of keeping the velocity of money high in their time, and so stimulating the medieval economy. But being so thin and light they must have required great care in handling and storage, which is probably why so few seem to be around now. I have no figures, but the average bracteate from the 12th to 14th centuries must be a much rarer thing than the average 1st to 2nd BC century Republican denarius.

Best regards,

Steve

Thank you, Steve,

Yes the "Bracteates area fascinating part of monetary history"

I agree, this type of the coins are very thin, and rarely intact... +++
