Trajan Decius towards the end of his reign, followed by Trebonianus Gallus at the beginning of his, undertook to double the value of any denarii they found in circulation by restriking them as antoniniani.

Among the 25 such overstruck denarii noticed by Mattingly in the Dorchester hoard of 1936, one was also originally of Gordian III, overstruck in this case with types of Herennius Etruscus as Caesar.  Three others had overstruck obverses of Etruscilla like yours, but with different rev. types,
ABVNDANTIA AVG, FECVNDITAS AVG, and PVDICITIA AVG, overstruck on denarii of Severus Alexander, an indeterminate Severan emperor (Septimius, Caracalla, or Geta), and Maximus Caesar respectively. See Num. Chron. 1939, pp. 42-3.

The Divi antoniniani of earlier emperors from Augustus to Severus Alexander were probably produced by Decius and Gallus in connection with this same operation, in order to preserve the memory of the earlier emperors whose coins were now being overstruck.
