What is the the word for.... Senior Moment
« on: December 30, 2019, 06:06:34 pm »
The fibula on the left is a very early fibula with a wire foot tied to the bow.  The fibula on the right and many many later fibulae have a decorative band on the bow where the knot was on earlier fibulae. There is a term for this sort of decorative feature that copies something that used to have a real function or meaning.  I cannot remember the term.  The term is not vestigial. It is even more specific. It is not a common term but I have used it to describe other items in the shop.  It is making me crazy.  Help.

Wow, never heard that term before, but there's a numiswiki page for it!

Ideally if you EVER see a term used on this website that you do not know, there should be a NumisWiki page for it. Ideally, if there is no NumisWiki page, you add one after you find out what it means (or let me know I should add one).
