Today I like to share with you a very small but great coin of Maximianus Herculius struck at the Lugdunum mint.

On it's reverse there's a mythological scene of the Herucles that otherwise is rarely seen on Roman Imperial coins.
It's showing Herakles wrestling the giant Antaeus. He lifts Antaeus up into the air by the waist while Antaeus tries to break his grip.

In the myth, Anteus was immortal, as long as he was in contact with his mother Gaia (the Earth). Hercules knew about this and lifted him away from the ground, what makes him able to strangle Anaeus to death.

Great coin! Goes well with my "Herculi Debellat", Hercules slaying the Hydra.

Congratulations from
