Ring with inscription...
« on: March 01, 2019, 12:04:32 pm »
Ave!

Silver; 20mm/7.9gm

This ring in Roman style, appears to have been cast with a unadorned bezel. Then three lines of inscriptions divided by two parallel lines were added later.
As seen in the photos, the inscriptions are rather crude...perhaps in garbled Latin?
The second photo is the bezel turned 180 degrees.

Any guess for the translation will be highly appreciated.

Thanks,

Kevin

Garbled latin, extreme abbreviation, magic incantation???

I suspect the  :Greek_Lambda: are meant to be A if anything, which was common on small inscriptions.

It looks like Juveninus - maybe a garbled form of Juvianus?  ???

Only guessing of course.

Yah, makes more sense that way with V rather than  :Greek_Lambda: .....

Ave,

A different perspective...could it be simply just a series of numbers? An old-school Roman soldiers dog tags?  ::)

Best to all,

Kevin

Reversing the image is a nice idea but unfortunately I don't think that it is a seal ring myself. But what do I know? I am guessing all the way.  ;D
