If struck in Rome under Justinian, it would have to be barbaric!
I don't know the type at all, but the general style looks okay for the period.

Mateusz S, we do not authenticate coins here.  We discuss coins suspected to be fake.  Do not post coins without explaining why you think they are suspicious or some reason why you are asking the question.

The reason for my question is that coins from that particular period -fall of the Western Roman Empire and the rise of barbaric states are very often falsified.
While the recognition of fake Imperial silver coins for example, from the first, second or third century is not a big problem (even for me) I completely do not know how to check whether a coin from the sixth century is authentic because as you know this period is one big numismatic mess. How and where can I check the authenticity of barbarian coins?

I am sorry for bothering and deeply thankfull for every advice. :)

Are you asking whether it's an official mint coin, or whether it's an authentic coin from the period, official or not?

I'm just curious if on the basis of the photo we can at least in some probability determine whether the coin is a modern copy and is worth as much as scrap or is a coin from the sixth century. I honestly admit that I do not know about coins from this period. I suppose that the imitations of the era are even more frequent than before the symbolic fall of Rome in 476.

I am looking for information on this subject currently. In the auction catalog "Künker Auktion 121 - The De Wit Collection of Medieval Coins" the specification is given: MIB 80, weight 0.9 gr.

The same coordinates were given by the seller. Well, after receiving the coin I will check if it really weighs 0.9 grams. Perhaps there are specialists in this forum who collect coins from the 6th century and I wrote my query / request for advice just in the wrong place.
