Another denarius to Identify
« on: January 14, 2019, 06:24:18 pm »
This is another of the unidentified denarius I bought in a mixed lot on the Forum Auction.

It is 17.2mm and 2.4g.

Not sure if it is another Severus Alexander denarius.

The obverse legend starts IMP CAESAR TRAIAN.  Unfortunately it is not readable after that and so leaves the erroneous implication that it is of Trajan.  However, the portrait is early HADRIAN, and IMP CAEASAR TRAIAN HADRIAN is how he started some early legends.

Thank you Shawn.  Running with the info you gave me on OCRE and I believe I have it limited to about 21 different RIC references with several different dieties.  However Clementia is the only one that shows writing in the Exergue which gets me down to either RIC II Hadrian 116 or 117.

Hopefully my logic so far has been sound.

Thanks again Shawn for deciphering some of the obverse legend.

Looking at it further I believe it to be RIC II Hadrian 116 as mine doesnt have the column that Ric 117 shows.

Thanks again Shawn.
