What makes you think it's a denarius?

Looks provincial bronze to me.

If it's bronze, it could be from Nicaea, Bithynia, .

Very hard to clean. Too hard to be worthwhile unless you actually enjoy the cleaning.

If you want to clean it. It should be done with a scalpel under a binocular microscope.
