Nomination of worldwide_artefacts24 as a Notorious Fake Seller.
« on: November 05, 2018, 03:49:09 pm »
Here is a fake seller nomination for the seller: worldwide_artefacts24

They are a new seller to eBay (joined 8th October 2018) but have already sold plenty of rare coins and artifacts. I don't know about the authenticity of these artifacts (some Egyptian and Bronze Age), but their coins, especially the Julius Caesar denarius, certainly look suspicious. They have also resold one of their coins.

Thanks!

I would want a bigger pattern of apparent fake selling before I'd condemn this seller. The Caesar denarius from the photo looks die struck and in typical style and mint condition. If a major auction house was selling it I'd not be concerned with it. Although it's very likely at a 99 pence start and a difficult to see photo to be a modern manufacture, I don't immediately see any problem with the coin. The other sold coin looks like a cast fake, sold as unresearched and for a selling price of £1.04. Hardly an inflated price for a fake, and no claim to be authentic.

I suggest to wait for firm evidence such as repeated examples of the same die Caesar elephant from other sellers too, or clearer evidence of definite fakes being sold as genuine. Have I missed a longer discussion on this seller without the seller being named?

The Julius Caesar denarius is a pressed fake from modern dies from a Bulgarian manufacture.
I have a die match, which I bought by a Bulgarian replica seller as a fake from modern dies for maybe 20 Euro!

The picture of the fake for sale at ebay are made in a strange camera angle so it looks a little bit strange.

OK I agree now. The photo of the replica makes it evident. In which case, as you say, the photo on eBay was taken deliberately at an angle to make rhe coin appear more authentic.
