Cannot find where to add avatar

Hello,

New user. First Post. Did search the FAQs and also this forum for an answer prior to posting this. I also tried to send a question via the FAQ mechanism, but the message would not go through (I kept checking the box next to the image that says "I am not a robot," but when I the clicked submit, I got a pop up telling me to check the box (which was already checked).

So I have come here...

I have looked at every available link under my discussion profile to add an avatar, but none of the links (under modify profile) have a way to do this.

Can you please direct me to the proper area?

That might explain why I haven't had a new FAQ in a long time. I will ask our webmaster to look into it.

You are, of course, welcome to call us on the phone or email questions.

You have to have at least 3 posts before you can add an avatar.  "Why?" you might ask. Because someone joined and posted with a porn avatar (their post was all porn too). So, now we have a few restrictions until you have a few posts.

Hello, again...

I now have the option to upload an avatar, but all of my attempts have failed. I read on one of the discussion sub boards that the size should be 75px by 75px, and I have sized mine to this, but I still get an error.

Are there more requirements I am missing?

I feel your pain. It took me about two dozen attempts before I was able to get an image that would upload. I don't remember now what magical combination of settings worked. It was definitely not just dimensions. You can try things like mapping to 256 colors, changing compression ratio, ... .

The maximum allowed size for avatars are 85 x 200 pixels.

As an example my avatar is 81 x 125 and takes up 3KB.

Thank you, but I have already sized it at 75 pixels by 75 pixels (smaller than what you have recommended).

Thank you, Joe; and apologies for not having figured it out myself...

I made a new one to try last night (I've always loved this portrait/bust). If this does not work I can send you the original first one I made (that one is 75p x 70px).

apparently it needs to be a gif not a jpg file.

I updated the profile page to indicate the avatar should be a gif, 75px x 75px, 256 colors.
