Need help with these 2 big ones
« on: September 22, 2018, 08:36:36 pm »
Hello everyone,

Recently i bought an old collection of Roman, Greek and byzantine coins.
25 years ago i started collecting Roman coins and did that for a year so my knowledge about ancient coins is not that well.
For some days i am struggling with 2 largebronze coins, i searched everywhere. Google images, coinarchives, wildwinds etc buton both coins no results.
I was hoping you guys could help me a bit further.

They are both about 35 mm
I do not know the weight as i do not have a scale yet.

I hope someone can help.

Greetings, Lex

Hi Lex,

That's great that you are getting back into the game.

The first one looks like Antoninus Pius, 138 - 161 AD, Drachm of Alexandria, Zeus Seated on Eagle.

The second coin also looks like Antoninus Pius.

I love those big coins.

Regards,
EB

I would keep an eye on the bronze disease on both coins... It looks like it could be active... Details on hour to treat them should it be active can be found in the preservation board...
    Otherwise... Cool coins  +++

Whow, that was fast!
Thank you all so much!
Now i have to deal with the bronze disease i think, these coins came from a pile of mostly uncleaned coins and they all are very green  :'(
A lot of work to do i think, i hope they are not to far gone.

They might all be Egyptian coins, Greek as well as Roman.
