Suspicious edge
« on: September 16, 2018, 12:41:02 pm »
Hello. I would like to ask whether this coin is fake or not.

The edge of this denarius is not normal to me. I think I can see sprue on the edge of the coin.

The weight is 3.34g

This coin is from ebay seller who is not on the NFSL.

Any comment can help me. Thanks.

A learning question if anyone knows: how does an edge like this occur? What could make the striations and holes like on the pictures above?

If this coin is OK, I also want to know, how does an edge like this occur?

Why does this coin has different edge not like common edge?

I've seen loads of edges like that, and I'm sure others here have too. I'm not sure what you mean by a 'common edge', but hard metal like bronze or debased silver doesn't flow well when struck, and produces all sorts of wrinkled edges.
