Pseudo imperial coinage?
« on: September 14, 2018, 10:58:26 am »
Dear members,

Im working on Aelia Zenonis coins. This solidus trouble me:

https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=1702722

It seems to me that it is a wisigothic coin or more probably a modern fake. The weight is a few weak, the general style... and the thing that i point out: the officina letter A on the reverse "VICTORI - A AVGG (A)" that is apparently unrecorded for Aelia Zenonis.

Antoher coin, who look more official but still trouble me too:

AEL ZEN - ONIS legend is not recorded yet too for nummi. The portraiture and letter style is different of other coins that i analysed.

Actually, i want to rank the solidus on wisigoth coinage and the nummus on new legend variant for official coin. Do you agree with me? Studies on those coins are particularly difficult, the state of coins is on bad condition, the line between official style and imitative is very fine too.

Thank you,
