Very nice indeed. It's nice to see these turn up now and again. It just makes you realise how many Probus variations there must actually be in total (probably 10s of thousands). The bust is very attractive indeed.

I also managed to find a Siscia example recently where the bust type was not in RIC for the type (not unexpected) but also not in Alfoldi (more unexpected). The officinal on my example was also not noted in either reference.

Probus
Obv:–VIRTVS PROBI AVG, Radiate, cuirassed bust left, with spear (or sceptre?)
Rev:– PROVIDENT AVG, Providentia standing left, holding globe and sceptre
Minted in Siscia (_ Q / XXI). 7th emission, A.D. 280
Reference:– RIC 722 var. (Unlisted bust type). This bust type also unlisted in Alföldi as is this officina

3.93 gms.21.61 mm. 180 degrees

The reverse die is a little worn otherwise it is quite attractive.

Sorry to react very late to this post. Yes, Joe, you are right: this Siscia type is absent from Alföldi's corpus (Alf. 65, -), but it is to be found in some quantities (6 registred ex. included yours), most in private hands. Yours. S. Estiot
